What are force-free training techniques?
Force-free training primarily uses positive reinforcement training techniques to teach the desired behaviours. Positive reinforcers for dogs and cats include food, play, and petting, with the value of each reinforcer varying between individuals. Negative punishment (eg removing attention) may also be used in select cases to reduce unwanted behaviours. What does assisted behaviour coaching look like? You will direct the focus of each training session based on your current needs and concerns. Your trainer will also help direct you based on their observations and experience. Each session will include the teaching of training skills and any relevant owner education. In addition to the training session, you will receive online access to current education and training material. Your trainer will ensure a holistic approach is taken and work with your regular veterinarian, groomer, kennel staff, or other personnel as required. Follow-up sessions will be booked as required and vary depending on a variety of factors. Sometimes issues identified are due to a medical or emotional disorder and referral for a veterinary consultation may be required. |
